This weekend why not pop down to the Making Space public art event in the Civic Square, Athlone. Here you will find an outdoor exhibition showcasing work from 21 local, national, and international artists. Art works exhibited are sculptural, interactive, and multimedia in nature. Visitors can view a bird made from beer cans by Athlone artist Leigh Francis or take shelter under the canopy of local artist Paul Quast’s work. Experience the serene beauty of Angel Embrace, a sculpture by George Mills or download an app on your smart phone to see what Double D has prepared for you.
Art works will be on show in the Square from 12pm to 6pm on Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 29. As well as this showcasing of emerging Irish talent, spectators may wish to catch the performance by Synergy and Light with the students of Our Lady’s Bower on Saturday at 3pm.They perform a dance piece based on Alice in Wonderland. Throughout Saturday and Sunday free workshops for children will be run.
Don’t forget to come to the outdoor film screening on Saturday night in the Civic Square from 10pm to 11pm where films by local artists such as Pamela Myers and Aoife Hegarty-Doolan will be projected on to the sides of the Civic Building. This event is kindly supported by the Prince of Wales Hotel, Elliott Opticians, Studio93, and Westmeath County Council.
