Club championship round-up

There was plenty of action last weekend in both the Westmeath senior and intermediate football championships. Mullingar Shamrocks again highlighted their intent for the year with a 3-19 to 1-8 hammering of Maryland. Bunbrosna edged out Athlone by a point in a low scoring affair in Moate while Garrycastle had little trouble in seeing off the challenge of a disappointing Downs side.

Killucan, as expected, claimed both points against St Malachy’s while Castledaly suffered their second defeat of the campaign this time at the hands of St Loman’s. Denis Glennon helped himself to 0-10 as Tyrrellspass edged out Tubberclair on a score-line of 0-13 to 1-08.

Meanwhile in the intermediate championship Caulry claimed a valuable one-point win over Moate in Athlone last Saturday. This was a significant result for Brendan Clarke’s young side who look set to be without four key players for the coming months as they head Stateside.

Shandonagh and Rosemount had too much firepower for Ballinagore and Milltownpass respectively while Tang and Coralstown/Kinnegad shared the spoils. Ballynacargy went down to CFCW while St Mary’s Rochfortbridge look like a team going places with a 2-11 to 0-13 win over Ballymore.
