The popular Left Bank Bistro in Athlone has received the Best Casual Dining award for Wesmeath in the Irish Restaurant Awards.
Situated in the heart of Old Athlone, the restaurant has been a favourite with food lovers from Athlone and beyond for over 15 years, and it comes as no surprise that its innovative menu has caught the attention of the judges.
The Irish Restaurant Awards are the largest and most coveted awards in the restaurant industry, and are sponsored by Santa Rita and the Sunday Independent LIFE Magazine. The awards recognise achievement and excellence in the restaurant and hospitality industry, celebrating all aspects from chefs and restaurants to food producers, local food heroes, and cookery schools.
Left Bank Bistro will now progress to the regional finals of the awards, and could then proceed to the national awards ceremony to be held in the Burlington Hotel Dublin on May 25.
Long famed for its delicious and exciting menu, Left Bank Bistro recently introduced even more variety with a new tapas menu and wine bar. With 22 wines now available by the glass and a wide selection of tapas on the menu, the venture adds an exciting dimension to the restaurant’s already fine offering.
The tapas, including such delicious options as sauteed garlic potatoes with serrano, and bruschetta of aubergine, rocket, and shaved parmesan, have been carefully selected to complement the existing early bird menu.
The dinner menu has also expanded to include several new dishes, including spicy buffalo wings with blue cheese dipping sauce, a selection of ribs, and a nightly fish card with various fish options. The regular lunch menu, with its many well-known favourites such as duck confit and tandoori chicken, also includes daily specials.
