Petmania National Dog Walk a barking success in Athlone

Over 10,000 paws took to the streets on Easter Monday, for the second annual Petmania National Dog Walk, in aid of the Carers Association, including some 100 dog walkers in Athlone.

The 5km sponsored dog walk took place at 13 locations around the country, including Athlone, with dogs of all sizes and breeds raising funds for family carers.

Emily Miller, marketing manager of Petmania says, “The event this year was a great success - it was our first time to bring the National Dog Walk to Athlone, and the response has been fantastic. We had about 100 people and their dogs take part, and we are delighted with how the event went. We’re already looking forward to next year.”

The search is now on for Ireland’s top dog and participants are reminded that they have until Sunday May 8 to return their sponsorship cards to their local Petmania store or Carers Association Centre.

“This year’s walk was a great success and we would encourage people to continue to raise sponsorship and return the monies raised by May 8,” says Annette McCaul, fundraising manager, The Carers Association.

“This event is all about raising vital funds for The Carers Association, but to add a little competition, we do have some fabulous prizes to be won by the dogs that raise the most sponsorship money,” says Emily Miller.

Each walk centre’s top dog will be awarded a year’s free dog food from Royal Canin, while Ireland’s top dog will win an amazing luxury family holiday at the dog friendly Harvey’s Point Hotel in Donegal, worth over €1,500.

For those who missed the opportunity to take part in this year’s National Dog Walk, but who would like to support this amazing charity, donations can be made through your local Petmania store or Carers Association Centre.
