Plan a picnic for Barretstown

Summer is just around the corner which means it’s Avonmore Big Picnic for Barretstown time again! For the third year in a row, Avonmore is campaigning to encourage everyone in Westmeath, whether individuals, families, schools, or companies to have a picnic this summer and raise much needed funds for Barretstown. In addition, Avonmore will match every €1 raised by participants in the Avonmore Big Picnic for Barretstown in 2011. To get involved log on to www.BigPicnic.ie and sign up for your free Avonmore Big Picnic pack.

The Big Picnic has grown each year and last year saw even more people hosting picnics and raising funds for Barretstown. The money raised in 2011 will help to send more families to Barretstown and also provide much needed equipment and resources to help run their family camps which take place throughout the year.

Barretstown plays an important role for children recovering from serious illnesses such as cancer, helping to heal the emotional scars by providing a unique therapeutic recreation programme through a fun, activity-based process of challenge, success, reflection, and discovery - backed by the medical world - which helps children affected by cancer and other serious illnesses and their families regain their confidence and self-esteem.

A mere €20 could contribute to the cost of recruiting and training Barretstown’s dedicated volunteers, of which 700 are needed every year. Just €50 could buy a supply of face paints for Barretstown’s arts and crafts and drama programme, and €350 could help pay for a child to come to Barretstown for a whole day.

Picnic season has arrived. So no matter what the weather, indoors or outdoors, get picnicking this summer and raise much needed funds for Barretstown.
