Easter Bingo at Drum
Drum Parish Bingo will host an Easter special in Drum Community Centre, Athlone on Good Friday night, April 22 at 8.30pm. Doors open at 8pm.
The usual cash prizes are up for grabs, and in addition 24 Easter eggs will be given away on the night A monster raffle will also take place.

Bealtaine Festival to celebrate creativity in older age
In May Roscommon Arts Centre plan to once again celebrate the Bealtaine Festival, with some events specifically chosen with our older audience in mind.
This year highlights include CoisCéim’s Swimming with my Mother, Decadent’s Here We Are Again Still, and the screening of the heartwarming Julie and Julia.
Other events include an art exhibition, Seeing in Black, by artist Orla Whelan; over 50s dance classes, an expert panel discussion on positive ageing and creativity in older age; and a Bealtaine film tour.

Charity duathlon
Roscommon Sports Partnership are running a charity duathlon in aid of the Mater Heart Appeal (SADS ). Boyle Fire and Rescue Service will help in organising the event. The event will take place in Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle on Sunday May 1 at 12pm.
It is promised to be a family fun day with kids’ sports, bouncy castles, face painting, etc, so come along and join in the fun and games! All proceeds go to the Mater Heart Appeal which provides screening for families at risk of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.

Local students raise €1,744 for Trocaire
Kelly-Marie Moore from Trócaire visited Convent of Mercy, Roscommon recently to collect the cheque from this year’s Trócaire 24 Hour Fast. The amount raised was a wonderful €1,744.67, and Kelly-Marie assured students, after a presentation, that the money would have a lasting and positive effect on communities in the developing world.

Twelve wins at SciFest
On April 14, Mr Harlow and 30 transition year students from Convent of Mercy travelled to Athlone to participate in SciFest. A very successful day was had as the girls received 12 various awards including the overall ‘Best School’ award.
The following awards were won: Emma Creavin, Emma Fannon, and Elizabeth Glancy got highly commended in Life Science (Curvature of the Spine due to heavy school bags ).
Jenny McDonnell and Eimear Harrington came second in Intermediate Life Science and also received a runner-up display award (The potential of silage effluent as a bio-fuel ).
Aileen Dowd, Ciara Brennan, and Fiona Murray came first in the Intermediate Life Sciences (The effects of dermally absorbed toxins ).
Anna-Marie Reilly, Phoebe Kelly, and Nicola Fetherstone got a maths and science award and also received ‘Best Communicator’ award. (The relationship between school entry age and academic performance ).
Denise McConn and Celine Fee got highly commended in Ericsson Technology (Design and Investigation into Systems to Reuse Waste Water from the Washing Machine and Dishwasher ).
Maeve Waters and Niamh Egan won a sports award (Branded sports vs homemade sports drinks ).
Ana Silva, Hayley Cumberland, and Aisling Brady came first in the Intermediate Physical Science section and won the Pharmaceutical Ireland International Year of Chemistry 2011 award (Drink testing – protection or false security ).
Lorna Dowd, Caroline Gunning, and Emma Healy came first in Intermediate Technology (Comparative investigation into noise reduction using protection materials for iPod earphones ).
The girls would like to thank Mr Harlow for all his hard work and dedication over the last number of months.
