Gardai in Athlone are still investigating an attack on a young woman which took place in Moate over the Bank Holiday weekend.
A Garda spokesperson told the Advertiser that they are following up on enquries, making house to house calls, and looking at CCTV footage.
The attack on the girl in her late teens took place in the early hours of Monday morning. Gardai investigating the attack believe that it is not related to five violent assaults which have taken place in Athlone in the last 13 months.
The attack took place in Moate between approximately 2am and 2.30am, near the Carmelite Church. Gardai declined to comment on the full circumstances of the attack on the 19 year-old woman.
They are appealing for anyone who was in the Newtown area of Moate on the night in question, and who might have seen something to contact Athlone Gardai on (090 ) 6498550.
