A large group of international tour operators and buyers visited Kilbeggan Distillery and Old Locke’s Distillery Museum on a familiarisation trip to the Midlands. The group are in Ireland to attend Meitheal 2011, the annual travel trade workshop organised by Fáilte Ireland, in conjunction with Tourism Ireland. Meitheal is one of the largest tourism trade workshops and the most important event of the Irish tourism calendar.
The operators were determined to sample the very finest tourist accommodation, attractions, and activities that the Midlands have to offer. This is a valuable opportunity to forge even stronger commercial relations between Irish tourism and the international travel trade and also an occasion to sample and savour the best of Irish hospitality.
Michael Brady, Fáilte Ireland’s client services officer, in the East and Midlands said: “We are delighted to welcome and extend a Céad Míle Fáilte to these tour operators that are here to sample the flavours of the Midlands. It is a great opportunity to showcase the Midlands region and Westmeath in particular to these international tour operators and buyers who have travelled to Ireland to contract and do business with hotels and attractions, and what better way to formalise that business than to see the excellent product first hand on the ground.”
