‘Wellness Workshop’ to tackle mental health issues
A free workshop aimed at helping people manage their mental health will be held at Gleesons Townhouse, Roscommon Town on Monday April 11.
Suicide or Survive (SOS ), a charitable organisation that provides services and supports aimed at suicide prevention in Ireland, is running a series of free support workshops aimed at raising awareness of mental health issues and supporting those affected. Places at the ‘Wellness Workshops’ are normally €200 per delegate but they are being offered free of charge thanks to the support of Vodafone Ireland Foundation.
Participants will hear real life experiences that will help them change their own lives. Feedback from recent events has been extremely positive with over 90 per cent of attendees describing the workshop as very good or excellent. One attendee said “The presenters were all helpful in their own way – a very good team of open communicators - a mix of calming, informative, animated and knowledgeable people who work together very well. I found the whole session excellent”.

Family fun at The Gallery
The Family Friendly Afternoons at The Gallery in Roscommon Arts Centre are designed as an introduction for all of the family to the world of art, a fun way to spark imaginations and get creative with your children.
Enjoy a guided tour of the exhibition and learn about the artist, before rolling up your sleeves and taking part in a fun art workshop with tutor Linda Shevlin. Linda will guide parents and children through the work on show each month in a family-friendly fashion, giving young and old an insight into how the artist works. The short tour will be followed by one of Linda’s ever-popular workshops where everyone will have the chance to create their very own simple artworks using methods similar to those used by the artist in the gallery.
The next Family Friendly Afternoon takes place at Roscommon Arts Centre this Saturday March 26 from 3pm to 4.30pm. Admission is free.
Business studies awards for Mercy students
Seven students from the Convent of Mercy were honoured in Athlone Institute of Technology on Tuesday March 8 in recognition of achieving a Grade A in their Higher Level Business Studies Junior Certificate exam.
The recipients were Aisling Brady, Ciára Brennan, Emma Fannon, Aisling Feeley, Amy Gacquin, Miriam Hastings, and Phoebe Kelly. The students would like to thank their Business Studies teachers for their dedication and support in achieving these results.
Trócaire 24 Hour Fast 2011
On March 11 over 250 pupils and teachers from Convent of Mercy, Roscommon took part in the annual Trócaire 24 hour fast. Trócaire’s Lenten campaign this year focuses on the work it does in Honduras, Central America. Trócaire is improving the lives of many people in Honduras through education and training programmes.
Sponsorship money is being collected at the moment and Ms Mulleague would like to thank all those who supported the fast. Kelly-Marie Moore, Trócaire’s schools officer, will call to the school to collect the final cheque in April.
