Gardai in Athlone are urging the public to be vigilant after a skimming device was discovered at an ATM at Golden Island last weekend.
They were alerted to the presence of a suspicious-looking device at the ATM on Saturday afternoon, which they removed for technical examination. They are also examining CCTV footage in an attempt to track the perpetrators.
While no member of the public was affected by the device, Gardai are asking the public to report any unusual devices or activity to them.
They are also seeking witnesses to the Golden Island incident, and anyone who noticed anything suspicious over last weekend is asked to contact Athlone Garda station at (090 ) 6492600.
