Students from Westmeath are among those who will benefit from the announcement by The Open College that eLearning will be available to all their students from the middle of the year.
Westmeath students are currently undertaking courses as diverse as business management, nutrition, and child development through The Open College’s online Distance Learning programmes.
The eLearning project is a radical innovation for courses leading to FETAC awards. Hitherto this delivery method was restricted to a range of third level qualifications. The eLearning project will roll out in the third quarter of this year. It is expected that upward of 500 students will avail of the service.
“It means on a set day the student will go online, meet the tutor live, listen to the lecture live, and ask questions live,” said Harry Walsh, president of The Open College. The need to travel to attend lectures is eliminated.
In addition to the current range of 35 courses available to students of The Open College, the eLearning Development is structured to add an additional 30 courses by year’s end.
The Open College offers courses in areas such as Business Management and Planning, Project Management, Event Management, Marketing, Legal studies, Communications as well as creative courses including Publishing and Writing and a further 13 courses in Childcare, Health, Education, Beauty and general interest courses.
All the courses offered by The Open College lead to FETAC awards.
