Glendeer Pet Farm reopens for St Patrick’s Day

It’s that time of year again, the grass is growing, the lambs are plentiful in the fields, the flowers are beginning to bloom, and all this could only mean one thing; Glendeer Pet Farm is about to reopen for 2011.

Glendeer Pet Farm (five miles west of Athlone, take exit 13 off M6, and follow the signs for Drum ) will open its doors to the public again on Thursday March 17 at 11am.

Glendeer is a very interactive experience as people can feed, pet, and even hold some of the animals, which include deer, pot belly pigs, llamas, alpacas, emu, ostrich, goats, donkeys, sheep, jersey cow, and a variety of domestic and exotic birds.

There will be plenty of little bundles of joy to see on the farm this time of year as the goats and sheep are due their kids and lambs any day now!

When visiting Glendeer you can also stretch your legs along the unspoiled nature walk where old horse-drawn farm machinery can be viewed, be transported back in time in the 1850s restored cottage and when all that is done the children can play on the slide, swings, seesaws ,and very popular glider swing, while adults can enjoy fresh coffee or tea and homemade treats in the coffee shop.

Glendeer is suitable for any weather conditions as there are indoor and outdoor picnic and play areas. Many of the animals are also under cover.

Groups/school tours catered for with guided tour by appointment special rate for 20 or more.
