Lockes Distillery in the spotlight in Germany

A prestigious travel publication showcasing whiskey-making at Lockes Distillery in Kilbeggan has hit the newsstands in Germany, profiling the best in holidays here to over 100,000 avid readers and potential holidaymakers.

Merian magazine is one of the top glossy travel magazines in Germany (circulation 102,000 ) and this month’s edition includes an extensive article about Lockes Distillery, including a wonderful double-page photo spread, with great holiday ideas for this part of Ireland.

Tourism Ireland facilitated the visits of the various journalists who wrote the features. Barbara Wood, Tourism Ireland’s manager Central Europe, said: “We are delighted with the coverage in this publication. It is an excellent way of showcasing Lockes and Westmeath and the huge variety of things to see and do here to a large audience of potential holidaymakers in Germany. The stunning photography captures and complements the messages in our spring campaign, which is under way right now, highlighting our spectacular scenery, and tapping into the fun of holidaying here.”

Germany is the largest outbound travel market in the world, with Germans taking more holidays than any other nationality. It is the third-largest source of visitors for the island of Ireland, delivering about 380,000 visitors in 2010 and over €160 million in revenue for the economies north and south. Barbara Woods continued:“The island of Ireland holds strong appeal for Germans, ranking at number five on Germans’ wish-list of places to visit in 2011, and we believe there is plenty of untapped potential in the market. We need to show them stand-out things to see and do when they come here. Our spring campaign is driving home messages of friendliness, humour, inspirational landscapes, and music.”
