Gatekeepers’ community education course for Athlone

GROW Community Mental Health Movement in conjunction with the Health Service Executive are organising a Gatekeepers’ Community Education Programme in Athlone. The course commences on Tuesday March 15. The course is free and all are welcome.

It will be held each Tuesday for five weeks in the Prince of Wales Hotel, Church Street, Athlone.

The course will look at some different aspects of mental health. It begins with the theme of understanding your mental health.

This will be followed by a course on the challenges and stresses facing vulnerable people and the presenter will look at life coping skills and strategies. A night will then be dedicated to stress management and change, and suicide and bereavement and loss will then be examined.

The final night will look at substance abuse and addictions, followed by testimonies. Certificates will then be presented.

The Gatekeepers’ Community Education Programme has been developed by the Suicide Resource Service HSE Midlands as part of the overall suicide prevention initiative.
