Pharmacy technician conference at AIT

A national conference for pharmacy technicians will take place at Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT ) on Saturday March 12.

This free conference is intended for those working as pharmacy technicians in Ireland, students currently undertaking pharmacy technician studies at higher education and professional body levels, as well as graduates of these programmes.

Among the speakers at the event are Christina Burke, barrister and lecturer in law; Emmet Feerick, pharmacist; Dr Denis O’Driscoll, Chief Pharmacist in Addiction Services at the HSE (SWA ); and Debbie Graham, Irish Pharmacy News.

Christina Burke will address the conference on the role of law and regulation in pharmacy practice. Dr O’Driscoll will update delegates on changes in the HSE substance abuse and addiction services in the last year, focusing on the HSE Opioid Treatment Protocol, Methadone Services and Needle Exchange Scheme. The purchasing technician in community pharmacy is a key member of any team and Emmet Feerick will advise on how to improve purchasing behaviour, while focusing on a new website, drugsaver.org Debbie Graham will discuss collaboration with the Irish Association of Community Pharmacy Technicians and will brief delegates on the importance of continued professional development.
