Westmeath back to winning ways

Westmeath 2-12     Tipperary 2-09

It wasn’t pretty but that won’t worry Pat Flanagan and co as he finally saw his Westmeath side secure a win for the first time since 2008. They say winning is a habit. Well so too is losing and one which Westmeath had become far too fond of.

It didn’t look good when the Lakelanders trailed by 5 points with 15 minutes remaining. A David Glennon penalty goal offered some hope and the same player also kicked over an equalizing point.

Paul Greville provided the winning score when he goaled in the 69th minute to secure this all important win. The introduction of u21 players Ger Egan, Conor Lynam, and Kieran Martin had a big bearing on the outcome of this game.

Wexford are next up in Cusack Park on Sunday week and it looks likely that Flanagan will have to plan without Dessie Dolan for the next few weeks, as he has been forced off through injury.
