Thousands of post primary students have started working on the One Good Idea project to improve awareness levels and understanding of climate change and energy efficiency in Ireland. The closing date for entries is Wednesday March 16 so that gives students from County Westmeath plenty of time to put their energy to good use and come up with One Good Idea that can make a difference and be in with a chance to win thousands of euros in prizes!
Organised by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI ) and the Power of One in conjunction with Change.ie, the campaign for climate change, the aim of the project is to increase students’ understanding of climate change and energy efficiency by encouraging them to take individual responsibility for tackling this important issue. This is a nationwide competition, inviting all post-primary schools to get involved and devise an innovative campaign that will be judged at a national final in May 2011.

The One Good Idea project allows groups of students to work in teams to research, design, and implement a campaign to improve climate change awareness and promote energy efficiency to one of four target audiences; adults and the wider community; their peers; primary school children; or a local business. Students can use drama, art, music or writing to bring their idea to life and ensure the message reaches their audience in the most effective way. There is plenty of support available from SEAI including a DVD, project pack and a facilitated session for a limited number of schools.
