Mullingar Student Players present Godspell

With just over a week to go the final preparations for this year’s student production are being firmly put in place. Godspell tells the story of the last three days of Christ as written in the gospel according to St Matthew and contains a plethora of the most famous songs in musical history including prepare “Ye the Way Of The Lord”, “Day By Day”, “All for the Best”, and “On The Willows” which were all chart successes in the 1970. The show as a whole has that kind of hip and trendy feel of the decade but under director Sean Lynch, the Mullingar Student Players production has been transported to the 21st century and is more relevant to today’s themes and topics.

The script is insightful and allows the cast to express themselves, something that this year’s crop of Student Players are relishing in and with catchy tunes, courtesy of musical director Angela Lynch, and stunning choreography from Siobhan Murphy, this promises to be one of the better Student Players’ shows.

All it needs now is an audience and in these recessionary times people need to support they own community more than ever and especially our younger members of society, particularly when they are putting all their creative energy into something to be proud of and to remember for the rest of their lives.

Tickets available at the Arts Centre box office and by calling (044 ) 9347777 and are priced at €17/€14. The show runs from Wednesday February 23 to Sunday February 27.
