Wheatgrass: nature’s superfood

Wheatgrass is a plant grown from red wheat berry - a special strain of wheat that produces a high concentration of chlorophyll, active enzymes, vitamins, and other nutrients.

Wheatgrass juice consists of 70 per cent chlorophyll and closely resembles the molecules of human red blood cells. One shot of wheatgrass will help to replenish and rebuild damaged blood cells in the body, which is vital for everyday vitality and wellness.

Wheatgrass is also abundant in live enzymes. We need to take in adequate enzymes on a daily basis, as unfortunately we don’t get all the enzymes we need from cooked and overprocessed food, resulting in overall poor health.

Wheatgrass is one of the richest natural sources of vitamin A, complete B complex, B17, C, E, and K. It is also an excellent source of calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, sodium, sulphur, zinc, and 17 forms of amino acids and enzymes. One ounce of wheatgrass juice is equivalent to 2.5 lb of green leafy vegetables.

Wheatgrass also neutralises toxins and carcinogens; creates an unfavourable environment for unfriendly bacteria; washes drug deposits from the body; helps to purify the liver; improves blood sugar disorders and digestion; removes heavy metals from the body; and aids in the prevention and cure of cancer. Wheatgrass is alkaline-based, helping to neutralise an over-acidic system and relieve rheumatoid arthritis or any joint pain.

Wheatgrass can be bought in Sofia’s Restaurant, Left Bank Mall, or Circle of Life, Roscommon Road, Athlone.
