Valentine’s weekend miscellany in Olive Grove

Athlone Literary Festival hosts a special Valentine’s weekend miscellany upstairs in the Olive Grove on Sunday February 13. Due to the resounding success of the Sunday miscellany event which was held as part of the Athlone Literary Festival last year, the organisers felt that a one year wait for a repeat of the special occasion was far too long.

“Valentine’s weekend seemed to be the perfect choice for a mid-season event. We wanted to give people an alternative choice of activities for Valentine’s weekend, the themes of love and romance combined with Athlone writers and musicians seemed to make an interesting cacophony,” said Jarleth Duffy, chairman of Athlone Literary Festival.

Mr Duffy added, “Athlone is privileged to be the home of a wealth of talented writers, poets, and musicians. The Miscellany format provides a perfect opportunity to provide a stage for some of Athlone very own artists to showcase their work.

The miscellany shall feature six published local writers, whose readings will be interspersed with the unique harmonies of six local talented musicians and singers, and will include Jason Gill, Sally Knight, and Mary Helen Hensley.

The miscellany takes place upstairs in the Olive Grove so all can enjoy readings and music with a theme of romance while glimpsing views of the mighty and romantic Shannon. The event will be recorded by Athlone Community Radio for broadcasting.

The Valentine’s weekend miscellany will take place on Sunday February 13, upstairs in the Olive Grove, Athlone at 12pm.

Admission is €10, including glass of wine – concessions €8.
