New year and a new season for Athlone Film Club

The new year brings a new season for Athlone Film Club at the Dean Crowe Theatre. Audiences are in a for a treat as the club unveils an exciting line-up of films, from classic to contemporary, commencing on Tuesday January 18 with the irresistible French romantic comedy, Heartbreakers.

The season will continue until April 5 as audiences will experience films of different genres from all over the world, including Chile, France, USA, Argentina, and the U.K.

Ireland is not forgotten as there will be a unique opportunity to watch the controversial award winning Irish documentary, The Pipe on the big screen.

Athlone Film Club is one of Ireland’s most successful film clubs and it has maintained a loyal and growing membership since it was established in 2008 under the patronage of the Dean Crowe Theatre Trust.

Affiliated with Access Cinema the clubs aim is to give local audiences the opportunity to see a range of world and classic cinema that rarely make it to commercial cinema.

Films are screened generally every second Tuesday at 8pm in the Dean Crowe Theatre and Arts Centre, Athlone. Prior to each screening complimentary wine is provided in the Theatre Bar where people can socialise and discuss the forthcoming films.

The Film Club has also attracted members of varying nationalities and cultures and this is reflected in the multi-cultural themes of the films shown.

Joining is easy, you can come along on Tuesday January 18 at 7.30pm and sign up for the season. You can also come as a temporary member to view a film of your choice.
