Our beauty picks 2010

In a year that has been tight on the purse-strings, our fashion and beauty buys this year have been all about value for money. Here we nominate our pick of the beauty bunch for 2010.

Handbag essential: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant

This skincare classic is a must for your handbag, especially in harsh weather conditions like those experienced of late. It soothes chapped lips and dry skin, and also works miracles on spots and minor skin irritations. The best all-rounder by far!

Skin treat: Body Shop mini-facial

One of the nicest treats of the year was The Body Shop’s mini-facial, using Vitamin E products including a lovely Sink-In Moisture Mask which left skin feeling utterly cleansed and silky-smooth, and Vitamin C Facial Radiance Powder to awaken natural radiance. Go on, pamper yourself.

Hair treat: TIGI Oatmeal and Honey Conditioner

TIGI Catwalk Oatmeal and Honey Conditioner is comfort food for your hair. It enhances moisture and shine after just one use - perfect for damaged hair or as a once-a-week treat. And best of all, it smells good enough to eat.

Hand treat: Sanctuary Hand Cream

This is still our favourite hand cream, one of the few we’ve found that lives up to its promise of being light and non-greasy. With shea butter and sweet almond oil, it gives immediate comfort to dry hands and is easily absorbed so you can get straight back to work!

Body treat: No7 Total Renewal Micro-dermabrasion Body Exfoliator

There’s nothing like exfoliation to make your skin feel like new. If you’ve used the face version of this product, you’ll know just how effective it is at sweeping away rough, dry skin. Use regularly for a few weeks for smoother, younger looking skin.

Perfume: Emporio Armani Diamonds

According to the blurb, this perfume “reflects the sparkle, strength, brilliance and sexiness of the Emporio Armani woman”. All we know is we fell in love with the sparkling diamond-inspired bottle first, and luckily the perfume lived up to our expectations! It is light, floral, ultra-feminine, and lasts all day.

Make up product: Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara

Why fake it when you can create the effect of false lashes with your very own lashes? We were sceptical too, but turns out this really is one of the best mascaras on the market. Max factor’s biggest ever brush sweeps right to the tips giving your lashes thickness and fullness without clumping.

Fake tan: St Tropez Wash off Instant Glow Mousse

Want a St Tropez tan but don’t have days to prepare? This wash-off mousse could be your answer. It glides on easily for an instant, smooth golden glow that looks completely natural, and best of all it is non-transferable so you can tan and go. It washes off easily with soap and water - just don’t get caught in a heavy rain shower!

Fashion website: Littlewoods

Littlewoods Ireland is fast becoming our first port of call for partywear, dresses, and all things fashionable. With a range of clothing and accessories from big brands including Miss Sixty, Bench, Superdry, Diesel, Lipsy, Accessorize, and many more, you can kit yourself out at the click of a mouse. We love their latest winter looks including ski boots, scarves, cosy knits, and ear muffs.

Recession buster: Lidl Iseree Q10 Day Cream and Night Cream

The rumours are true: these really are as good as many of their overpriced competitors. At a very purse-friendly price, these anti-ageing day and night creams are extremely rich and easily absorbed, leaving skin feeling soft and nourished. The day cream is a great base for make-up. The anti-ageing benefits remain to be seen!
