It will be a very merry Christmas for one lucky customer of Griffin’s Newsagents, Athlone, with the news that a €30,000 prize was won from a scratchcard bought in the store.
The newsagents in Northgate Street were first alerted to the win when they received posters from the National Lottery on Friday, informing them that one of their customers was some €30,000 richer.
While the winner does not wish to be identified at present, it is understood that the scratchcard was purchased in the shop last week, and that the lucky winner has redeemed the win at Lotto headquarters in Dublin.
This most recent winner is not the first to strike gold with tickets brought in Griffin’s - the newsagent has also had two Lotto jackpot winners in the last 10 years.
Owner of Griffin’s Newsagents, Mark Lennon, is delighted at the latest win.
“I am delighted for the winner. It is always nice to have people win, especially coming up to Christmas,” he said.
Mr Lennon would like to remind customers that this weekend’s Lotto draw takes place on Friday evening.
