Ensure your therapist is qualified, say IACP

At a recent Midlands region AGM in the Grand Hotel Moate, accredited members of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP ) voiced their concerns for clients who are attending counsellors and psychotherapists who are not qualified or trained in the area.

They also revealed that a recent survey has shown that anxiety and depression are the most frequent reasons for visiting a counsellor or psychotherapist

“The psychological and emotional benefit of appropriate counselling and psychotherapy in a wide range of circumstances is well established. However unqualified practitioners often receive little or no training and cannot ensure their clients will experience and gain from the necessary professional effective therapy,” said Ray Henry, cathaoirleach of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

The Midlands IACP wish to encourage members of the public to ensure the therapist they choose to work with is appropriately qualified and a member of a professional organisation.
