Westmeath gets 100 per cent broadband coverage

Some 3,851 homes and businesses in Westmeath are now connected to world-leading high-speed broadband with 3 and the National Broadband Scheme.

Up to 3,851 homes and businesses are now set to reap the benefits of broadband as 3, Ireland's largest high-speed network has completed the rollout of the National Broadband Scheme (NBS ) in County Westmeath. Twenty-six electoral districts in the county were chosen for the scheme and are now covered.

Since the scheme was launched in September 2009, 3’s broadband network has proved successful in connecting the unconnected all over rural Ireland, especially in remote areas like the Aran Islands, Clare Island and many parts of Connemara, Mayo, Kerry, and Donegal. In these areas, families and businesses alike are now receiving the full benefit of this essential service, the most enabling technology since the rural electrification of the State in the 1940s.

This connectivity enables businesses in NBS areas of Westmeath to make the most of high-speed internet, email, and additional services, giving them access to local and global markets and improving efficiencies and revenues.

Home and business users throughout NBS areas of Westmeath now have access to high-speed mobile broadband, where they can do everything they always wanted to do on the internet, whether it's downloading music, surfing the web, checking emails, or making free Skype calls abroad.

Damien Gallagher, 3’s National Broadband Scheme Director said, “We at 3 are delighted to be connecting the unconnected to the internet throughout Ireland. 3 believes it is a fundamental right for every person in Ireland to have access to the internet and, in the current climate, it has never been more important for people and businesses in Westmeath to be connected. 3 is very proud to have achieved one of the fastest roll outs in telecoms history with the NBS, in addition to having now reached 100 per cent connectivity in County Westmeath.”

Emphasising the importance of broadband services for Westmeath, Gallagher continued, “3’s high quality broadband offering throughout the county has enormous benefits for rural communities and businesses. It is enabling businesses to compete with urban competitors but also offer huge benefits for all the family through on-line entertainment, education or just keeping in touch with friends and families through Skype and email.”

Homes and businesses across Westmeath can avail of 3’s best-in-market broadband which costs just €19.99 per month for 25GB, with a once-off connection fee of €49.
