Fiat and Alfa Romeo scoop more international awards

The Alfa Romeo MiTo has been voted Best Supermini in this year’s What Car? Reader Awards, the only annual car awards in the UK and Ireland voted for solely by the car world’s most demanding critics: owners and potential customers. With an average star rating of 4.6 out of five, the MiTo not only topped the Supermini category but ranked third overall ahead of 167 competitors.

Meanwhile, more than 100,000 drivers and car enthusiasts in Germany have cast their vote in the annual Auto Zeitung Readers’ Choice awards and for the fourth year in a row the iconic Fiat 500 was voted Best Imported Supermini by the influential car magazine’s readers. The new Alfa Romeo Giulietta was voted Best Imported Small Family Car ahead of the Skoda Octavia and the Citroen DS4.

Finally, the Italian Union of Automotive Journalists (UIGA ) has named the Alfa Romeo Giulietta its Auto Europa 2011. Alfa Romeo’s newest model was awarded 349 votes ahead of the Citroën DS-3 (300 ), Peugeot RCZ (125 ), Volvo S60 (122 ), and BMW 5-Series (100 ). In total 40 cars were in contention for this prestigious award and it is Alfa Rome’s fifth time winning the overall Auto Europa.
