Westmeath County Council has moved to remind residents’ associations of their responsibilities, and of the responsibilities of the council, in relation to the management and maintenance of their estates.
Responding to a query from Cllr Peter Burke, a spokesperson for the council drew attention to a document for residents and residents’ associations entitled ‘Guidelines for Purchasers in Residential Developments’, which is available to download from the county council website and available upon request from the council’s legal and enforcement section.
This document sets out responsibilities of residents in estates that have been taken in charge by the council, and in particular gives details of what parts of a development are the responsibility of the council and what remains the responsibility of the residents.
He added that residents’ associations grants are available each year through the Cathaoirleach’s Awards Scheme, with the closing date in late spring and the grants being paid out during the months of June and July.
