Athlone Little Theatre celebrates 75 years

Athlone Little Theatre celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. It was founded in 1935 and its first play The New Gossoon by George Shiels was performed in Custume Barracks in early 1936 and directed by Captain Michael Cosgrave.

The new committee has exciting plans for the coming season to honour their auspicious history and as a warm-up event is running a table quiz in the Olive Bar, Arcadia, Athlone on Thursday November 11 at 8.30pm. All are welcome to come along to support Athlone Little Theatre and be in with a chance of winning some great prizes.

The pièce de résistance will be their Diamond Jubilee Gala Evening to be held in the Sheraton Hotel on February 5 2011.

Some 700 people enjoyed the theatre’s most recent show Barefoot in the Park which ran in October. Their next show runs from November 25 to December 1.

The show will consist of three one-act plays by popular authors with the emphasis very much on sending you home smiling.
