AIT student wins Irish Taxation Institute Award

Athlone Institute of Technology student Ruth Maher, who is currently studying for a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting, is the winner of the 2010 Irish Taxation Institute Award for Best Taxation Student. Ruth comes from Loughrea, Co Galway and is currently in the final year of her studies at Athlone IT.

Geraldine Beattie, AITI Registered Tax Consultant and a Partner with FGS in Longford presented Ruth Maher with her award at a special ceremony in AIT last Friday, October 22.

“As the leading representative body for taxation affairs in Ireland, the Irish Taxation Institute is committed to the promotion of taxation as a career. The institute sponsors a number of awards for students of taxation in a number of key third level institutions throughout the country, including Athlone IT, and I’m very pleased to be here today to present Ruth Maher with her well deserved award,” said Ms Beattie.

“At the macro level, tax practice and policy is key to the management of any economy, and further down the scale, all businesses must deploy good management of their tax affairs in order to succeed. On this basis, a career as an AITI Registered Tax Consultant is influential and rewarding and we hope that many of today’s students will aspire to becoming the tax advisors of tomorrow.”

For students seeking additional qualifications following completion of their third level degree, the Irish Taxation Institute’s AITI Registered Tax Consultant qualification is recognised throughout the EU and is the premier qualification in tax consultancy in Ireland. The institute is the leader in tax education in Ireland for over 30 years, and its School of Taxation is renowned for its standards of excellence and the outstanding quality of its graduates.
