The Athlone chapter of BNI (Business Network International ) is hosting an open evening in the Sheraton Hotel on Wednesday November 4 at 6.30pm.
The chapter is currently looking for a number of trades and professions to refer business to. So, if you could handle more business, this may be just what your company needs.
Referral, or word of mouth marketing, is fast becoming the most reliable way of marketing your business. A colleague or friend recommends a product, service, or company, and you trust that recommendation. It is estimated that as many as two thirds of a customer’s decisions to purchase are primarily influenced by word of mouth.
As director of the Athlone Gateway Chapter of BNI, Ivan Merrick, explains: “Unlike other networking events which are ‘one-off’, we meet weekly for a business breakfast and meeting. In 2009, members of BNI chapters in Ireland and England passed in excess of €1.7 billion worth of business to each other.
“BNI teaches members how to ‘fish’ for business. You learn how to teach your fellow business people what you are looking for, and through this you get referrals.”
BNI is by far the most successful networking organisation in the world, with over 5,000 chapters in 43 countries. Its primary purpose is to exchange quality business referrals. Last year, the Ireland North East region of BNI passed 22,500 quality referrals between them.
The Athlone chapter is expecting a high turnout on the night, so early booking is advised. There is a nominal fee of €10 to cover room hire and refreshments, with Mr Merrick advising visitors to bring plenty of business cards to pass around on the night, as there will be lots of local business owners present.
