Plans are under way for what is hoped will be another successful Services and Information Open Day to support people with disabilities, which will take place this year at the Mullingar Park Hotel on Friday October 22. This event is going from strength to strength each year and this is the third time an event of its kind has been organised.
The members of the Disability Working Group for Westmeath, which is a sub-structure of Westmeath Community Development, highlighted the need for such an event three years ago. Chairperson Hugh McGuire indicated that last year alone, 27 new members joined his organisation PWDI as a result of attending the event.
Its aim is to bring services users and service providers together in the one venue for networking purposes, and to support people with disabilities to gain access to information, which may help improve their quality of life. Attendees will have the opportunity to talk to service providers in person and see the vast number of organisations that provide services in County Westmeath.
Last year there were 37 exhibitors and over 200 people attended. Planning for this event is ongoing and there is still time for organisations to book their stand. Contact Edel on (090 ) 6494555 or email emccallon@ westcd.ie
