The latest installment of the Athlone Film Club, Still Walking, is to be shown at 8pm next Tuesday October 12 in the Dean Crowe Theatre. A pre-movie drink is on offer in the Theatre Bar from 7.30pm.
Still Walking is a drama about grown-up children visiting their elderly parents. The movie unfolds on a summer’s day when a son and daughter return for a rare family reunion, bringing their own families with them.
The group are gathering to commemorate the tragic death of the eldest son, who drowned in an accident 15 years previously. Although the roomy house is as comforting and unchanging as the mother's homemade feast, everyone in the family has subtly changed. With a nuanced balance of gentle humour and wistful sorrow, the movie portrays just how precious, and precisely how annoying family can be.
