The closure of a cement works in Ballymahon and the resultant loss of 10 jobs has been described as “disastrous” by Longford/Westmeath Deputy James Bannon
“The closure of Cemex Ireland is another disastrous blow for Co Longford,”said the Deputy.
“News of the 10 redundancies is shocking for the workers and their families and another devastating blow to the economic well-being of the county.
“It is obvious that the current Government is in no way committed to Longford with these job losses following on the Budget announcement that Longford Barracks is to close with the loss of 180 full-time jobs.
“Local Government Deputy Kelly boasted of his ability to retain Longford Barracks which was proven to be mere empty words.
“Where was he when Cemex was also lost to the area?”
