Razors down trousers cost dearly

A shoplifter who stole razors and hid them down his trousers was fined €500 by the District Court last Tuesday (October 14 ).

Krzystos Lepinka (26 ), with an address at Apt 31, The Parade, Bastion Court, Athlone was charged with two similar thefts from Dunnes Stores on June 14 and 19 last when he stole the branded shavers “and put them down his trousers”, according to Inspector Paul Cuttle for the prosecution.

The items were valued at €50 and €67 and neither were recovered.

Lepinka’s solicitor Padraig Quinn told the court how his client had recently been let go and that his partner was pregnant.

“There’s no explanation, judge, he just succumbed to temptation,” said Mr Quinn.”He’s never been in trouble here or at home.

‘He’s learned a salutary lesson and doesn’t expect to be before the court again”.

“What did he plan to do with them?” asked Judge David Anderson.

“Keep them,” suggested Mr Quinn.

“There’s the guts of a couple of years shaving in that lot,” said the judge before fining Lepinka €250 on each charge.
