Disappointment at lack of bus service to Bealnamulla - Naughten

Cllr John Naughten has expressed disappointment at the decision by Bus Eireann not to extend its existing service from Athlone to River Village to serve the Bealnamulla area.

“The Bealnamulla area was previously serviced by a private operator; however this is no longer the case and I have been contacted by a number of people in the local community who had relied on this service and are now experiencing difficulty travelling to and from Athlone as they live in the area between River Village and Bannon’s Filling Station,” explained Cllr Naughten.

The councillor was informed by Bus Eireann recently that for “operational and cost reasons” Bus Eireann was not in a position to extend the service to Bealnamulla.

“I am extremely disappointed that Bus Eireann has not seen fit to extend this service by just half a mile, a decision which would have made a huge difference to the lives of a large number of people,” said the South Roscommon councillor.

“I now intend to continue to pursue this matter with Bus Eireann and urge the company to reconsider this decision in its ongoing review of operations in the area.”
