Ennel Shamrocks crowned minor champions

Ennel Shamrocks 1-9

St Lomans 1-8

Ennel Shamrocks were crowned minor champions in a lively and incident packed encounter in Cusack Park last Sunday. A late goal from Loman’s John Heslin added to the excitement but the clock ran out on the Mullingar men.

The Saints led by two points at the break but the winners had built a two point lead midway through the second half. Controversy surrounded a ‘point’ by St Loman’s which was waved wide.

In the end despite the best efforts of John Heslin, who contributed 1-5, and his teammates it was Ennel Shamrocks who clung on for victory.

It is a case of one game at a time from here on and the Longford champions will be a difficult nut to crack. Yet the maturity and strength in depth which Garrycastle possess give them a great chance of clearing the first hurdle and perhaps a lot more besides.
