Strokestown 0-10
St Brigid’s 0-08
St Brigid’s hopes of completing the senior/ intermediate double failed to materialise thanks to a two point defeat to Strokestown in the intermediate decider in Hyde Park last Sunday. With Brendan O’Brien unable to start due to a hamstring injury, the Kiltoom club were dealt a blow before the ball was even thrown in. He was introduced, but that was when Bazil Mannion was forced off through injury.
Despite playing with the aid of a strong wind in the opening half, Brigid’s trailed 0-2 to 0-4 at the break. They could easily have been four or five points to the good by that stage had they not squandered a host of chances both from play and frees.
In the second half The Saints drew level at five points apiece. However Strokestown then upped the ante and forged ahead 0-10 to 0-5. To their credit the men from the south of the county never threw in the towel and three unanswered points left it 0-10 to 0-8. However time ran out on St Brigid’s and they fell short on completing what would have been a rare double.
