Information evening for parents of first year engineering students at AIT

An information evening for the parents and guardians of first year engineering students at Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT ) will be held on Thursday October 7.

The welcome night is an opportunity to meet engineering academic/support staff and to learn more about what is involved in being an engineering student. The event will take place in the new Engineering and Informatics Building from 7-8pm.

Head of the School of Engineering, Austin Hanley, said, “This event provides an important opportunity to show parents and guardians what engineering is about at AIT. We have learned over the past four years of organising this event that they are curious about what happens in lectures, in the labs, and in practical sessions. This is an opportunity to remove some of that mystique and to see for themselves the facilities and equipment on campus.”

AIT offers engineering programmes in mechanical, electronics, computer, software, civil, construction, and polymer disciplines. More than 800 students are currently registered on engineering programmes in Athlone. The new Engineering and Informatics Building, which was opened in September, represents an investment of some €36 million. Extending over three floors and 11,000 square metres, it is one of the best-equipped facilities of its kind in the country.
