Help is at hand for clean-ups

Community groups planning to undertake a clean-up in their area are being advised to contact the council’s environment section to avail of assistance.

Groups can take advantage of complimentary bin tags for the disposal of collected litter, and various equipment such as litter pickers and reflective vests are also available to community, voluntary, and Tidy Towns groups.

A question from Cllr Frankie Keena prompted the council to clarify the matter at last week’s Athlone Area meeting.

“The Environment Section of the council provide a range of assistance to community, voluntary, or Tidy Town groups involved in the clean up of areas. This includes equipment such as litter pickers, reflective vests, advice from Community Warden Service, and also bin tags for disposal of litter/rubbish collected,” said a council spokesperson.

“Any group is advised to contact our Environmental Awareness Officer to avail of this assistance.”
