Padraig Pearse’s can count themselves lucky to get a second bite at the cherry to retain their senior status. A late equaliser deep in injury time from the boot of Sean Fahey ensured that both sides would have to do it all again this Sunday.
Pearse’s got off to a flying start with a converted penalty helping to give them a four point lead. Yet it was Kilbride who looked the hungrier and they weren’t long in swinging things around in their favour.
Two points from Sean Fahy meant the sides were deadlocked with two minutes of normal time remaining. A huge effort from Seamie O’Neill looked to be enough to condemn Pearse’s to intermediate status but credit to Pearses and Fahy in particular who refused to accept defeat and grabbed the late late equaliser.
The replay is bound to be a close affair again but Pearse’s are surely open to more improvement. Provided Fahy gets more help up front I expect them to hang on to their senior status.
