Local girls bid for Miss Ireland crown

It’s the most glamorous competition in the beauty pageant calendar, with three local girls gearing up this week to take their shot at winning the prestigious ‘Miss Ireland’ title, the winner of which goes on to represent Ireland in the 2010 Miss World pageant in China.

Katlyn Parker from Glasson, Siobhán Mullooly from Athlone, and Rachel Kelly from Edenderry will be flying the Midlands flag at this weekend’s event in Dublin.

Nineteen-year-old Katlyn Parker, representing Westmeath, was nominated by her modelling agency to take part in this year’s event. Katlyn is preparing to undertake her first year of an actuary degree in Dublin City University next week and currently works in Promod in Athlone Towncentre.

Siobhan Mullooly, also nominated by her modelling agency, will be representing Roscommon. The 21-year-old is a second year student of Business Management in AIT and works part-time in Boots in Golden Island.

Representing Offaly, Rachel Kelly from Edenderry is ‘Miss Beauty All Ways’. Rachel is 18 years old and is in her Leaving Cert year at St Mary’s in Edenderry. She plans to study speech and language therapy.

Miss Ireland has always been the most coveted crown in Ireland and former Miss Irelands have enjoyed hugely successful careers in modelling, entertainment, TV presenting, acting, and business. Former Miss Irelands such as Rosanna Davison, who went on to win Miss World, Michelle Rocca, Siobhan McClafferty, Olivia Tracey, and Andrea Roche all made it to the top 10 finalists in Miss World, and Ireland has always been a force to be reckoned with on the world stage.

This Saturday September 18, Miss Ireland will be presented at a formal black-tie ceremony at the D4 Berkeley Court Hotel. The winner will receive a lucrative modelling contract and a host of prizes including diamonds, beauty and hair products, and a stunning wardrobe. Miss Ireland 2010 will then go to China at the end of the year to represent her country in the Miss World pageant.
