Audi has announced pricing for the two newest power plants available in its new flagship A8 range. The 3.0TDI 250 quattro Tiptronic version is expected to account for three in every four new Audi A8 sales in 2011.
The new A8 3.0TDI saves fuel through its engine start-stop function, cutting engine power at idle when the brake pedal is depressed, and then restarting in just two-tenths of a second when it is released. Emissions are thus reduced by 50g (22 per cent ) compared to the previous generation of the A8, despite power increasing by 17bhp to 250bhp.
Other standard equipment features on the 3.0TDI include Audis third generation MMI navigation system, MMI Touch (Audi’s revolutionary new MMI interface which uses driver handwriting ), Valcona leather upholstery, adaptive air suspension, xenon lights with LED daytime driving lights, 18” alloys, and Bluetooth interface to name a few.
The six-cylinder 3.0 TFSI, embodies Audi’s philosophy of downsizing strategy: it substitutes forced induction for engine displacement. Located in the V of the cylinder banks is a crankshaft-driven supercharger that compresses the induction air. With 290bhp and 420Nm of torque available from 2500rpm the 3.0TFSI provides spontaneous throttle response and sonorous sound making it a sporty petrol option for A8 customers.
Pricing begins at €91,900 ex works for either the 3.0TDI 250bhp or the 3.0TFSI 290bhp versions.
