New Spanish sensations at Wines Direct

This summer, World Cup winners Spain have not only given us some stunning football and entertainment, but they have also given us some world class new wines.

Wines Direct, Mullingar’s specialist wine provider, has imported seven stunning new wines from Spain to add to their already impressive selection of handcrafted wines.

“Over the past two years or so, we have noticed a huge shift in customer preference from drinking so called ‘new world’ wines, back to wines from Europe,” says Trevor Fisher, retail manager with Wines Direct.

“As a result we have made a huge effort over the past year to seek out new European wines that offer outstanding quality and great value for money and I think our new offerings from Spain highlight this.”

Wines Direct are offering all seven of these new wines with a 10 per cent introductory discount until the end of August. All of these wines, as with all wines at Wines Direct, are produced with passion by small family-owned vineyards, with a focus on outstanding quality and value.

Bodegas Vinasperi

Wines Direct are delighted to introduce three new wines from Bodegas Vinasperi in Rioja, which is owned and run by the San Pedro family. Carlos, the father of the family, is now handing over to the next generation, but he remains the guiding influence in the vineyard. All of the wine produced by Vinasperi is consumed in Spain, except for what they export directly to Wines Direct.

La Legua

Wines Direct have been big fans of La Legua from the Cigales region of Spain for quite a while and already import two red wines from them. Now they are excited to be adding a third! Emeterio Fernandez is a retired Spanish army doctor who has put huge commitment and energy into the winemaking and running of his beautiful property.

Los Navales

The Viedel brothers have produced for Wines Direct a fantastic example of fresh and exuberant Rueda at a great price. What is impressive here is the single-minded determination of the brothers towards quality production, even carrying out 24 hour shifts during harvest to ensure that everything is done to the highest possible standard. Great wine can only come from perfect fruit and that is very much the mentality of the Viedel brothers.

(White ) Los Navales Verdejo Rueda 2009 – Introductory price: €9.86 per bottle
