The Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council was delighted to announce that the new County Buildings in Mullingar have been awarded an International Architecture Award by the The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design; the European Centre for Architecture Art Design; and Urban Studies and Metropolitan Arts Press, Ltd.
The competition drew submissions from 45 countries around the world. This year some 95 new buildings and urban planning projects were selected and awarded from 38 nations including Austria, Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Spain, United Arab Emirates, United States, and Vietnam.
The International Architecture Awards was organised as a way to honour the best new buildings, landscapes, and planning projects designed built around the world.
The International Architecture Awards give an important global overview of the current aesthetic direction of today’s commercial, corporate, institutional, and residential work to the real estate, banking, business, and corporate community, as well as to the press and general public worldwide.
The International Architecture Awards are dedicated to the recognition of excellence in architecture and urbanism from a global point of view. The programme pays tribute to new developments in design and underscores the directions and understanding of current cutting-edge processes consistent with today’s design thinking.
Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, Michael Dollard, commenting on the award stated “This award is a recognition of the investment in local democracy customer services that is the foundation of local government in Westmeath. The members of the council are very proud of the new County Buildings and the improvements it has brought in efficiency and customer services as well as the vote of confidence it represents in Mullingar and county Westmeath.”
