Music and comedy fans will not be disappointed this autumn with a varied mix of both just confirmed for autumn at Roscommon Arts Centre.
The Last Laugh Comedy Club welcomes the return of Jason Byrne on Friday November 5 for what is sure to be another night of mayhem and laughter. As anyone and everyone who’s ever seen his on-stage shenanigans will tell you Jason Byrne’s show is a hilarious whirlwind.
Local comedy duo The Two Willies make their arts centre debut on Saturday October 16 with their new show Funny Side Up. Local lads Liam Sherringham and John Crean will introduce you to dynamic and exciting new characters in their unique, rural slapstick comedy style. Proceeds go to Cancer Care West.
There is plenty to choose from for traditional music fans, with husband and wife team Draíocht performing on Thursday November 4 and The Unwanted starring Cathy Jordan of Dervish with Rick Epping and Seamie O’Dowd on Thursday December 2.
Fans of trad group Kíla can look forward to an unusual mix of music and theatre with The Adventures of the Wet Señor on Thursday November 18. Based on the true story of Captain Francisco De Cuellar who is washed ashore on a Sligo beach in 1588, this production is a new work by Donal O’Kelly which features especially composed live music by Kíla, one of Ireland’s foremost traditional bands, and stars Carrie Crowley, Jamie Carswell, and Sorcha Fox.
Familiar face Frank McNamara will host a concert featuring music played by himself and members of his family on Friday November 12. Featuring music and song, ranging from light classical, Irish, and contemporary, this show will appeal to a wide audience of all ages and is a perfect family night out.
Fans of opera are in for a treat with the Opera Theatre Company’s performance of The Diary of Anne Frank on Tuesday September 28. Written by Grigoy Frid, the opera tells the classic and much-loved story of 13-year old Anne Frank during World War II. Vivid and insightful, this heartrending opera will be a magical night not to be missed.
The Fureys and Davey Arthur make a welcome return to the arts centre on Friday October 8 with what will be another great night of song and music featuring some of their hits including ‘The Green Fields of France’, ‘Red Rose Café’, ‘From Clare to Here’, ‘Her Father Didn’t Like Me Anyway’, ‘Leaving Nancy’, and ‘Steal Away’.
