Tubberclare earned the bragging rights and more importantly a place in the knock-out stages thanks to their two-point win over neighbours Maryland in Athlone last Saturday.
Ian Coffey hit an impressive 2-4 for the winners. Fergal Wilson was introduced with a little over 10 minutes remaining and made a good impact kicking a very important point. However as if he hasn’t had enough of injury he had to be carried off before the end following a very rash challenge by a Maryland player who deservedly saw red. Reports are that Fergal will be able to tog for their quarter-final showdown with The Downs.
Finbar Egan will be disappointed that his side couldn’t reach the quarter-finals for the second year running. Injuries didn’t help their cause this year with a number of key players ruled out last weekend.
