Kilbeggan will hear within a week whether it is to get a new, €1.6 million nursing home on a three acre site on the Tullamore Road.
Sarin Properties initially applied last year to build, but made a second application in June for a slightly larger facility.
The 60-bed, single storey unit will, at 3,282 sqm, be 50 per cent larger than the plan submitted last December.
The facility will be built on the Tullamore road if permission is granted next week, but no figures on the number of jobs that will be created was made available.
The only other construction of note planned for the county during this traditionally slow period, is from Kamer Construction who have applied to build eight apartments and eight duplexes in place of the eight terraced homes the firm has already been given permission to build at the Orchard, Blyry Lower, Athlone. A decision is due on August 23.
The only refusal of note in the last week was to John Noel McGivney who applied to open a garden centre in Rathowen. He was turned down because he sought to open the 642 sqm facility on unzoned lands outside the boundary of the village in accordance with the county development plan, and that his proposed exit onto a national route would constitute a traffic hazard.
Finally, the franchisee of the McDonalds fast food restaurant on Pearse Street, Mullingar has made an application to Westmeath County Council through the architectural firm Arthur Gibney and Partners of Harcourt Street, Dublin 2, to extend the chipper’s weekend opening hours from 2am to 4am. In the same application the firm has also sought to alter existing windows. A decision is due on October 3.
