Westmeath u16 footballers have had a busy week with no less than two finals in four days. On Sunday the young maroon and white men defeated Louth in the final of the Gerry Reilly tournament in Oldcastle in Meath. Having impressively defeated Meath, Dublin, and Louth on their way this was just rewards for their efforts.
On Wednesday night Westmeath faced Sligo in the final of the Fr Manning Cup. It was the physically stronger Sligo men who lifted the silverware after extra time. The injured Ray Connellan was a big loss to the Westmeath men but the team and management can be proud of their achievements this year and have plenty to look forward to if they stick together in the coming years.
