Motorcycle race to pick up bikers in Westmeath

Ireland’s largest and longest motorcycle event, the AXA/AON Annual Across Ireland race, will take place this August for the 11th consecutive year, with stop-offs in Athlone and Mullingar for local bikers to join the crew.

The chosen charity for 2010 is Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Ireland (SBHI ). Once again AXA and AON have set out to organise a super weekend of biking, entertainment, prizes, and fun for all.

The two-day race will kick off from the Mansion House in Dublin on Saturday 28 at 1pm and will arrive in Eyre Square, Galway on Sunday August 29 between 5.30 and 6pm.

The first stop and collection point on the bikers’ route will be in Mullingar on the N4, where a number of bikers are set to join up with the original crew.

Just before the petrol meters run too low, the bikers will stop at Kilmartin’s Texaco Station in Athlone at 3pm before passing through Athlone town for the second collection point at 3.45pm.

Money raised through this, the SBHI’s main event, will go directly to fund and purchase specialised equipment to be used by families affected by spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus.

Over the past 10 years the Annual Across Ireland crew have raised €1.5 million for a number of Irish charities and raised over €178,000 in 2009 alone.
