The Moatrix Festival, which is now in its second year, is an action packed charity weekend for all the family, with up to 10 bands each day and six singer/songwriters playing between bands. The festval will take place in Don’s Bar, Moate on Saturday August 28 and Sunday August 29 from midday to midnight, and will include outdoor bars, the live music, and a huge BBQ.
Along with live music local artists Lorna Farrell and Anna Duffy have organised an art show. Local technology and lights expert Andrew Minnock will be bringing it all to life, including visual delights, lots of lights, sounds, and interactive special effects to amaze the kids. This event is especially suited to families, with an inflatable garden which includes inflatable bouncy castle, slide, and obstacle coarse is completely in-closed with 6ft walls leaving the little ones very little escape options. Face painting, a clown, and lots more for the kids will be there on the day too.
The festival aims to raise funds for the Niall Mellon Township Trust. Event organisers Stuart Clifford, Zara Malone, and Damion Claffey will be making the trip to Capetown, South Africa this coming November to build houses for families who otherwise live up to 17 in a shack in very poor conditions.
Headlining acts over the weekend include Hogan of Tullamore, Co Offaly and Ka tet of Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo.
Other acts performing over the weekend include Keith Barry's musical support act Cleere. They have supported Keith Barry in 80 dates this year to front of 75,000 people in total. Voxall Vivas, Heymaker, Something Simple, and Nine Lives among others will also be taking to the stage.
Local dance group Danzone will also be performing on Sunday August 29. They have just won TV3's national Glee club competition and will be playing the O2 arena for the Childline concert at the end of the year.
Fergal Cox, Bean Dolan, and Tadgh Kelleher of Athlone are three singer/songwriters confirmed for the festival.
